LAKEVIEW LIVING COMMUNITY

Based in Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, this healthcare facility was designed to provide a comfortable and enjoyable space for the elderly to reside and transition as they age. This facility provides accommodations for those in assisted living and memory care. Thorough research was conducted to determine these accommodations and best design elements to comfortably and enjoyably meet their specific needs.

Designed from the ground up, I drafted all floor plans, and took into consideration how those using the facility would function best. Fun patterns and plenty of bright lighting provide optimum enjoyment while gently allowing residents to age in place. Wayfinding was prioritized when considering how to best accommodate the residents.

For those with memory care conditions, I specifically focused on providing contrast so they could easily differentiate planes and non-distracting elements. I also included sensory rooms, such as a convenience store, a sensory room, and a salon that provide familiarity as they age.

For those in assisted living conditions, I designed for independence and activity spaces. A courtyard provides the ability to enjoy the outdoors without the challenges of long paths and uneven terrain. A pool and gym allows them to enjoy their independence and stimulate their interests.

The facility provides ample space for families to spend time with loved ones, as well as space for staff to function best while assisting the residents. The large windows and overall thorough design allows for opportunities to invite the beautiful scenery of Smith Mountain Lake in. Sustainability was prioritized in the design, blending sustainable responsibility with the environment around the facility.
